SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES

LEHIGH VALLEY HEALTH NETWORK, MARATHON FOR VIA, Lehigh Valley is seeking volunteers (adult supervision for ages 12-14 years) for their annual marathon on Saturday, September 7 (9am-5pm) and Sunday, September 8 (5:30am-1:30pm). The Marathon takes place starting in Allentown, through Bethlehem, and ending in Easton, PA. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, pack pick-up, hand out water to runners, and course marshal spots (cheering on runners) along the route. FEED THE CHILDREN, Bethlehem is accepting volunteer applications for their Teacher Store where teachers from Title I school districts to have the opportunity to shop for free school supplies four days a month. Dedicated, outgoing volunteers are needed from 1:30-5pm every Wednesday of the month to help with check-in/out, assist shoppers, restock the store during the week. Volunteers are also needed from 9am-noon every Monday to restock shelves. PHOEBE HEALTH CARE CENTER, Allentown needs volunteers (age 13+ or entering 8th grade) to help transport residents to/from their rooms before/after summer picnics in July and August. Visit with the residents during the picnic to enjoy food and conversation. Some residents may need help carrying their food to the tables. SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, Nazareth is looking for individuals or groups of volunteers to help pack SUNShine Boxes on an assembly line from 8:30am-12:30pm every 1stand 4th Tuesday of each month.  Volunteers help organize and load pallets, make and break down boxes, and do sweeping. THE GRESS MOUNTAIN RANCH, INC., Orefield needs volunteers (18+ years) to be Ranch Camp Counselors from 8:45am-2:30pm during the weeks of July 15 and August 5. Camp counselors will guide campers (2nd grade-12thgrade) in activities that include: horsemanship, donkey cart rides, alpaca-felting, scavenger hunts, learn about care/feeding of animals, shadow a real veterinarian, etc. Daily themes include Team Work and Spirit of Volunteerism.   • Description: Donegan Elementary School is hosting a school-wide Leadership Day. Throughout the day, students will be painting parking spaces according to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids. In addition to painting parking spaces, they will also paint and personalize river rocks to add to the outdoor classroom. Volunteers will be needed to help facilitate the painting process throughout the day. Experience and interest in the visual arts are preferred. However, students with strong leadership qualities are encouraged as well.
