Community Service Opportunity List for October-November




Farmersville Elementary School: Math Night: Friday night, November 17th, 6-9pm 
 in the gym. We are looking for volunteers to help with set-up, clean- up and supervising the games.

Farmersville Elementary Holiday Gift Shop - Located at Five Below, 3875 Dryland Way, Easton
Friday, 12/1 @ 5-8pm, and Saturday, 12/2 @ 9am-12pm . We are looking for volunteers to be “elves”, help the little children shop for family and friends and wrap their gifts.

ARTSQUEST, Bethlehem is looking for Christkindlmarkt volunteers for various positions including Admission Assistants, Booth Attendants, Eco-Squad, Merchandise Assistants, Customer Service, Kid's Craft Assistants, and more.  The Festival runs for 6 weeks starting on November 17 through December 23rd (Thursdays through Sundays).  Shift times vary depending on the day.  Call Coryna Barberis, 610-332-1360cbarberis@artsquest.org.

FAMILY VOLUNTEER DAY is held annually the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  It is an opportunity for families to work together to serve their community, share quality time for busy families, strengthen communication, and have a positive impact on local communities.  This year's date is Saturday, November 18th, and The Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley has several local opportunities available.  Check their website www.volunteerlv.org, where listings are updated regularly.  
  
HISTORIC BETHLEHEM MUSEUMS & SITES is in need of volunteers for its Annual Turkey Trot 5kRun, a competitive and fun walk, on Sat., Nov. 26.  Volunteers are needed Fri. Nov. 24 and Sat. HOLIDAY HOPE CHESTS needs volunteers to donate wrapped shoeboxes filled with age-appropriate items for Lehigh Valley's children in need.  This program coordinated by the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is a great project for large/small groups, clubs, classes, families, and individuals.  To participate, go to www.volunteerlv.org and fill out a 2017 Donor Pledge Form.  Filled shoeboxes may be dropped off at UGI Auditorium at 2121 City Line Ave., Bethlehem from 12noon-6pm on 11/28 through 11/30 or Friday 12/1 from 10am-3pm ONLY.

American Red Cross of Lehigh Valley-Bucks Freedom High School students - On Saturday, December 16, the Red Cross will be in Easton partnering with community organizations, volunteers, and firefighters to educate residents about fire safety and installing free smoke alarms in homes without them. We’re looking for volunteers to join us for a few hours to make the community safer.

October Vol. 1 Community Service Opportunity List



Nitschman Middle School's Annual Holiday Shopping Extravaganza.

Two types of volunteers sought at Liberty High School students only:

High school student volunteers willing to assist vendors with set-up and break-down during Nitschman Middle School's Annual Holiday Shopping Extravaganza. Volunteers needed 3:45-5:00 p.m. & 7:45-9:00 p. m.  Students may work one or both time slots. You will need to confirm your volunteer time(s) with the event coordinators.  Expect to have a short conversation with them prior to the event. High school volunteers are needed during Nitschmann's Annual Middle School Holiday Shopping Extravaganza.  During the event, students have the option to work the full event, 5-9 p.m.  The second option is to work a minimum of 2.5 hours, the shifts will be approximately 4:45-7:15 p.m. and 6:00-8:30 p.m...  Please contact Therese Gyauch at 610-360-4543.  Leave a phone number and email.  Your volunteer slot will be confirmed with the event coordinator(s)--for best placement--after a brief conversation with you.

Grace Assembly of God Church

Needs volunteers for sorting, wrapping toys for Christmas Community Outreach-- set up, tear down for event, parking attendants, children workers, Nursery workers- security, welcome team, and registration team.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY, Allentown is looking for Mentors for students at Fountain Hill Elementary School, Bethlehem.  Mentors and Littles meet once a week 3:30-4:45pm; activity ideas are provided.  Mentors are also needed for Breakfast Program at Paxinosa Elementary, Easton.  Mentors meet once a week from 8:15-9am at school.  Call Melissa Moyer, 610-432-8000 x107, mmoyer@bbbslv.org.

EQUI-LIBRIUM, INC., Nazareth is starting their Fall session and needs volunteers (14+ years) to help as horse handlers or side helpers to assist the riding instructor and/or therapist in carrying out the riders' individual program plan.   Call Yvonne Darlington, 610-365-2266,

HISTORIC BETHLEHEM MUSEUMS & SITES is in need of volunteers to serve as museum tour guides/docents.  Docents introduce guests to the heritage stories found at their many historic sites.  They may also be trained to provide seasonal tours.  Training is provided for docents.  They also need an experienced Graphic Designer to assist the Marketing Coordinator.  A portfolio is requested.  Call Kristen Walsh, 610-882-0450 x20, kwalsh@historicbethlehem.org.

THE SALVATION ARMY, Allentown needs responsible, reliable, and trustworthy volunteers for their 2017 Red Kettle Bell Ringing Campaign.  Volunteers must relate well with the public, have a desire to help raise funds, be able to stand for a 4 hour shift and ring a hand bell, must dress weather appropriate for outdoors, and provide their own transportation to The Salvation Army on N. 8th St.   A short training orientation will be provided.  Call Deirdre Govan, 610-432-0128 x220, Deirdre.govan@use.salvationarmy.org.

THE SALVATION ARMY CHILDREN'S SERVICES, Allentown is seeking energetic individuals to serve on the Rock N' Run 4 Kids Committee.  Work with a fun group to plan and organize this event that includes a 10K, 5K, and Kids Fun Run, and many fun activities for families.  Must attend monthly meetings, but otherwise, schedule is flexible and much of the work can be done on your own time.  Call Linda VanEsch, 610-821-7706, Linda.vanEsch@use.salvationarmy.org.

LEHIGH VALLEY ZOO, Schnecksville - The Lehigh Valley Zoo needs volunteers to be an integral part of the zoo family by providing Smart fun for over 200,000 visitors annually. GRACEDALE NURSING HOME, Nazareth - Volunteers needed to escort residents to appointments within the facility. Opportunities are Monday through Friday 9AM-3PM.  Activity helpers needed to assist staff with games, crafts, and special events. GRASS Recycling & Sustainability Project (For LHS Students Only!) -  Student volunteers are needed to collect and coordinate recycling at Liberty. Students are needed daily. Please contact Mr. Zahm for more information at gzahm@basdschools.org


FEAT (For FHS Students only!) - Freedom’s Environmental Awareness Team is always looking for new members to help with coordinating and collecting recycling!  They recycle after school most Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students meet in room 143. As the weather gets warmer, they will also need volunteers to work in the courtyard with weeding, mulching, planting, and general clean-up.
