Donegan Elementary Summer Volunteers

Donegan Elementary: A Community School
Summer School 2016
Community Service Information
Welcome!
Thank you for taking time out of your summer to assist our summer school program. This is a great way to give back to your community while also completing your required community service hours.
Rules
1.    No cell phones
a.    Technology is amazing! However, this is neither the time nor the place for checking Facebook or Snapchat. You are here to work.
2.    No relationships
a.    This is not the Love Boat. Save your sweet nothings for after your work time.
3.    Dress appropriately
a.    This is school property, and all school rules apply, including wearing appropriate clothing. If you need a refresher, I have a copy of the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
4.    Act appropriately
a.    Just as with #3, you need to act as is expected in school. In fact, you need to be even MORE aware of what you say and do. Our students are looking up to you!
5.    No food or drink while working
a.    This should be a no-brainer. We will serve you breakfast and lunch every day, so keep the food and drink in the cafeteria.
Responsibilities
You will be working in the classroom with our elementary students. Your main responsibility will be to do whatever the teacher asks of you. It may be to cut out pieces of paper or work one-on-one with a student. We are counting on you, so you must commit to coming every day.
Schedule
The summer program begins Tuesday, July 5, 2016 and ends Thursday, July 28, 2016. The program runs Monday to Thursday. Students arrive at 9 am and leave at 12 pm or 2 pm, depending on the program. You are expected to be at the school by 8:30 am and will be done by 12:30 pm. By the end of the program, you will have earned 60 hours of community service!

Gardening opportunity at Stephen's Place

Stephen's Place is looking for 2 or 3 students to come out to Stephen's Place to pull weeds in the flower beds and the vegetable garden as well as water the plants and the garden.  We would like you to schedule this for two or two times during the week.  We are flexible with the time but would like you to come before the sun comes up in the morning; before 10A.M.
or in the evening after 5:00.  Gloves and garden tools will be provided.  Also, when the garden begins to bear fruit you will join in helping us with the harvesting, some of which will be taken to a local food bank.  Cold drinks will be provided for everyone.

This is a community out-reach activity to provide a service for Stephen's Place as well as the South Bethlehem community.  A garden does not grow without toil and labor.  Later in the summer when it produces beautiful fruit you will be able to observe the fruits of your labor.  Looking forward to meeting some of you this summer.
