December #2 Community Service Opportunities 2018

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS

Consider becoming a volunteer at Central Moravian's Putz.  Volunteers needed! Are you looking to do something meaningful this Christmas season?  We are looking for Liberty and Freedom students 15 years and up. 

Place: The Location is at Central Moravian Church, CE building (40 W. Church St), lower level.  

When:  November 23, 2018, and ends December 31, 2018

The hours are (Shifts are two hours) Please consider signing up for multiple shifts: 

Thursday, Friday, 1:00pm-7:00pm, 

Saturday 10am-8pm and 

Sunday, 1pm-5pm. 

Typically, the last shift stays 30 minutes after closing time. 

There are two roles we are looking for volunteers for: 

Hoster:  You will be running the Putz, there are two options.   One is to provide a short introduction (written page is on the podium in Putz room) and then push the button to start the Putz.   The other is to push the button which begins with the introduction. There are instructions on running the Putz inside the room. 


Greeter:  You will be outside the Putz room, in the hallway, greeting the visitors.  You will count the numbers in each party (and where they are from, and how they heard about us), and record this information in the log book.   Encourage them to sit in the waiting room or even better, shop in the Star and Candle Shoppe across the hall while they wait. Putz showings are every half-hour. Group tours will be noted in the log book as an FYI to you.    

If this is your first time helping, we would be happy to provide training or connect you with a volunteer on a previous shift who can give a quick tutorial.

ALLENTOWN RESCUE MISSION invites volunteers to a Christmas Gift Wrapping Party on Saturday, December 15. You will be wrapping gifts for men at the Allentown Rescue Mission. HISTORIC BETHLEHEM MUSEUMS & SITES is looking for volunteers to serve as Gallery Guides at the Kemmerer Museum of Decorative Arts Gallery. Guides keep a watchful eye over the exhibits, answer visitors' questions, and should be knowledgeable about the museum and exhibits. THE SALVATION ARMY, Lehigh Valley needs Red Kettle Bell Ringers at various locations in the Allentown and Bethlehem area. Two or four-hour shifts available at your convenience Monday through Saturday now through December 24. Volunteers (min age 15 or 14 w/adult) are needed for various positions like booth attendants, St. Nick's assistants, merchandise helpers, customer service assistants, and much more. LEHIGH VALLEY ZOO, Schnecksville is seeking volunteers to help with their Winter Light Spectacular from 5-10pm every Wednesday through Sunday, except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day from now through December 30. Volunteers help with games and holiday activities, snack stands, costumed characters, fire pits, admission, and more. All opportunities are outdoors, so dress weather appropriate! MEALS ON WHEELS OF THE GREATER LEHIGH VALLEY, Allentown is seeking individuals or teams to deliver meals to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities. BETHLEHEM SPECIAL OLYMPICS needs a head Gymnastics Coach and additional gymnastic volunteers for Rhythmic Gymnastics. Practices are held from 6:30-8pm on Wednesdays from November-June. Volunteers are required to become Class A Volunteers through Bethlehem Special Olympics by completing the background check and few online trainings. The team of volunteers helps ensure that the Museum is one of the best in educational programs/lectures/exhibits and entertainment where visitors can learn about the history of the automobile. NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS?

NEEDS CHRISTMAS WRAPPED SHOEBOXES

Create Gift Boxes for Holiday Hope Chest

& Receive between 1-5 hours of Community Service

1 Hour per 3 wrapped boxes

Students can create holiday gift boxes to receive up to 5 hours of COMMUNITY SERVICE.  Empty Wrapped Boxes need to be brought into the Community Service Office by no later than 2:30 PM on Friday, November 9, 2018.
  (No boxes will be accepted after this date)
Directions on how to complete and submit the boxes are listed below:

  •  The box(es) should be a normal size “Shoebox(es)” with a lid – (See example)
     
  • The shoebox should be fully wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper and at least 2 sheets of tissue paper inside the box. Please see the video for instructions and what your box should look like when it's finished:

  • Fill out a timesheet (Very important) with the number of hours and number of boxes. Sign the timesheet and parent signature is also needed.

FEED THE CHILDREN, Bethlehem is currently accepting volunteer applications for our Teacher Store from dedicated and outgoing volunteers to help teachers shop for free school supplies and classroom furniture from 2:00-5:00 pm every Wednesday of the month, August through May. Check-in, check-out, assisting shoppers during open hours and restocking the store during the week. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 1:30 pm. THE GRESS MOUNTAIN RANCH, Orefield needs help from up to 50 volunteers for the Open Gate Farm Tour 10AM-5:30PM, on Sunday, October 21.
