SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES

LEHIGH VALLEY HEALTH NETWORK, MARATHON FOR VIA, Lehigh Valley is seeking volunteers (adult supervision for ages 12-14 years) for their annual marathon on Saturday, September 7 (9am-5pm) and Sunday, September 8 (5:30am-1:30pm). The Marathon takes place starting in Allentown, through Bethlehem, and ending in Easton, PA. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, pack pick-up, hand out water to runners, and course marshal spots (cheering on runners) along the route. EQUI-LIBRIUM, INC, (EQUINE ASSISTED ACTIVITIES & THERAPIES), Nazareth needs volunteers (ages 14+) to help during half-day Horse Camp for the week of August 12-16 (ages 4-7). Lincoln Elementary’s Welcome Back Carnival

Date: August 24, 2019

Time: 2pm-4pm

Location: Lincoln Elementary School, 1260 Gresham Street

Purpose: To celebrate the upcoming school year with our students, their families, Lincoln staff, and community partners

Itinerary: Information Tables, Games, Food, Raffle Prizes

LEHIGH VALLEY ZOO, Schnecksville needs volunteers to help at their 12^th Annual Run Wild 5K/10K for animal conservation. Volunteers are needed from 6:30-10:30am on Saturday, August 17.   Volunteers will be helping with stations such as registration, check-in, water/snack stands, timing & awards, course guides and trail safety, and more! ARTSQUEST, Bethlehem is looking for volunteers (adult supervision for age 14-15) to join the best music festival in North America - Musikfest! Join your friends, family, and coworkers and support your community. ArtsQuest has a job for everyone from beer tapping to keep the festival grounds clean and much more! FEED THE CHILDREN, Bethlehem is accepting volunteer applications for their Teacher Store where teachers from Title I school districts to have the opportunity to shop for free school supplies four days a month. Dedicated, outgoing volunteers are needed from 1:30-5pm every Wednesday of the month to help with check-in/out, assist shoppers, restock the store during the week. Volunteers are also needed from 9am-noon every Monday to restock shelves. NEW BETHANY MINISTRIES, Bethlehem has volunteer opportunities with their Digital Choice Food Pantry. They need volunteers to enter inventory into their grocery database, stock shelves, and distribute orders to guests on a regular basis (daily, weekly, or monthly) from 9am-noon, weekdays. PHOEBE HEALTH CARE CENTER, Allentown needs individuals/families/group volunteers (age 13+ or entering 8^th grade) to help transport residents to/from their rooms before/after a Pool Party on July 25, a Summer Picnic on 8/7, and a Summer Concert on 8/24. July 2019 - Community Service Opportunities

PHOEBE HEALTH CARE CENTER, Allentown needs volunteers (age 13+ or entering 8^th grade) to help transport residents to/from their rooms before/after summer picnics in July and August. Visit with the residents during the picnic to enjoy food and conversation. Some residents may need help carrying their food to the tables. Upcoming picnics are from 10-am-2pm on Tuesday, July 16; Wednesday, August 7; and Wednesday, August 21. Call Eileen Mihocko, 610-794-5366, emihocko@phoebe.org.

 

SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, Nazareth is looking for individuals or groups of volunteers to help pack SUNShine Boxes on an assembly line from 8:30am-12:30pm every 1^stand 4^th Tuesday of each month.  Volunteers help organize and load pallets, make and break down boxes, and do sweeping. SUNShine Boxes are packages of supplemental food that are distributed to over 2,500 low-income seniors. Call Idaliz Burgos, 484-287-4015, iburgos@caclv.org.

 

THE GRESS MOUNTAIN RANCH, INC., Orefield needs volunteers (18+ years) to be Ranch Camp Counselors from 8:45am-2:30pm during the weeks of July 15 and August 5. Camp counselors will guide campers (2^nd grade-12^thgrade) in activities that include: horsemanship, donkey cart rides, alpaca-felting, scavenger hunts, learn about care/feeding of animals, shadow a real veterinarian, etc. Daily themes include Team Work and Spirit of Volunteerism. CAMELOT FOR CHILDREN, Allentown needs volunteers (14+ years) to be Camp Buddies from 8am-3pm for summer camp from now to August 2.   Volunteers are paired with Camelot children and their siblings to have a great time enjoying the playground, games, crafts, and weekly field trips to a variety of different locations. HISTORIC BETHLEHEM MUSEUMS & SITES is looking for volunteers for their Blueberry Festival, July 20 and 21, at the Burnside Plantation. Volunteer opportunities include: dessert tent, admissions, parking, Blueberry Brewery (age 21+), Kid's Club crafts, colonial dress up & games, runners, and more! Volunteer shifts are: Festival set-up; Monday through Friday, July 15-19 from 8am-3pm; Saturday, July 20 - 9:30am-1pm, 12:30-4pm, and 3:30-7pm; Sunday July 21-Clean-up 6-9pm. WESTMINSTER VILLAGE, Allentown has volunteer opportunities for students (ages 14+) to help transport residents to/from in-house activities. Engage with seniors and help them with activities such as bingo and arts and crafts through September. Volunteers (adult supervision ages 14-17) are also needed for helping residents with grocery shopping Wednesday mornings from 9-11:30am and/or Fridays 12:30-2:30pm. GREATER VALLEY YMCA, Easton is looking for volunteers (adult supervision for ages 15-17) to help with their Annual Firecracker 4-Miler Race from 6-11:30am on Thursday, July 4. Proceeds support youth program scholarships at the Easton/Phillipsburg Branch of Greater Valley YMCA. Volunteers may assist with positions including interactive exhibits, conservation activity stations, special events, memberships, marketing, and grounds departments. Usually, up to 10 volunteers are needed from 12:30-2:30pm. Volunteers must be comfortable lifting to 50 lbs., bending, and walking for the entire time.
